How I fixed my Dropper.Bridge.A infection.
First of all, what is this thing? Dropper.Bridge.A is a Trojan that redirects your Internet Explorer to certain websites that try to sell you things. Also, it imbeds itself in your registry and sends a message to some website for updates. Like most proggies of its type, it can bog down your computer and provide some irritation, and it usually comes as a setup file. Nothing too major, it just aggravates your browsing experience.

I learned this stuff after I got infected. Maybe it’s just me, but I’m the type of person who wants to know whatever I can about internet stuff. Maybe one day, I’ll be some rogue scholar techie, but not now. Anyway, I figured something was wrong, so I thought I’d fix it with my antivirus. That didn’t work so well, so I did some research. I found out that there are some computer bugs called “spyware” that don’t necessarily get detected by antivirus programs. I dug a little more, and found that there are antispyware programs that deal with these things. Now I had to wonder, what is the best one?

After looking at so many programs that claimed to be the “Best” or the “#1,” I had to consider new search terms to find out what is truly the best. So, on top of the search terms of “spyware” and “antivirus,” I decided to add “100% guarantee.” I tried the one at the top of the list. I was impressed with their display of the mention of the Better Business Bureau and the five star ratings. The statement of constantly searching the web for new definitions was pretty cool, too. I thought I’d give it a shot with their unregistered version, just to test.

It told me that I had the .Bridge.A bug. This happened pretty quickly. I was expecting about an hour or so of waiting, but it only took about five to ten minutes. I was even more impressed. I went ahead and bought the registered version and ran it.

My infection was cleared up pretty quickly. I also found out something else that I missed while I was looking at the website. Apparently, they protect your computer from being re-infected. This, I thought, was probably the coolest feature ever. After all, it’s better to prevent an infection than treat it, right?
